A brave group of 25 swimmers took part in the annual Kerrera to Oban open water swim on Saturday.
The event had been blessed with a spot of good luck when an old cup for the first lady to finish was found in an Oban solicitors vault and donated in time for the race.
First person to complete the 0.4 nautical mile stretch was Allan Robinson, the coach from Oban Otters swimming Club. Alison MacVicar won second place, and was the first woman across the water.
MacPhee and Partner solicitors donated the MacKinnon Challenge Cup Ladies Trophy which they found last week during a clear out. It dates back to 1938 and the first name engraved on it was Sheila MacTavish, with the latest presentation to Hazel Gentles in 1965. This was duly presented to Alison MacVicar on Saturday.
The firm also donated a brand new cup for the first overall competitor.
Organised by community group Atlantis Leisure, the race takes place every year weather depending. Competitors met at Oban Sailing Club before being ferried to the island and swimming back to town.
The first swimmers are usually in within 20 minutes.
Julie Didcock, duty manager at Atlantis, said: “It was fantastic, I was really pleased with the numbers we got and we had great weather, with nice calm conditions.
“Kath McMahon and Billie Kirkham from MacPhees came down to present the two trophies which was nice.
“The feedback we are getting from the swimmers is that they really enjoyed it and it was a lovely swim.”
The event has raised in the region of £500 towards the fund for refurbishing the Atlantis changing rooms.
