A Highland woman has raised more than £4,600 for The Brain Tumour Charity by getting her head shaved in memory of a close friend.

Louisa Stewart Howitt, who lives in Ferness, south of Nairn, got her hair shaved by son Robbie in a tribute to best pal Charlie Williams, who died in December 2018 after a battle with a brain tumour.

She described her friend, who was godfather to her son, as a “special guy”.

Mrs Howitt said that the fundraiser was really important to her family as Mr Williams’ death had left a “big hole” in their life.

She said: “Having lost one of my best friends only 18 months ago and seen the effect it had on him and his family, which was devastating, I wanted to have a fundraiser.”

It is hoped that the donations will help develop more research on brain tumours.

Mrs Howitt said: “I think there is much more of a push about tumour research over the last few years, and I want the fundraiser to help the research grow.”

She was delighted to have raised well over her original target of £1,000 and thanked all those who supported her fundraiser.

Mrs Howitt added: “I got my son to do the hair shave as he usually cuts his friends’ hair and it meant he was really involved with the fundraiser.”
