Dundee boss Neil McCann has slammed Celtic fans for years of “disgusting” and “despicable” abuse ahead of tonight’s clash between the two sides.

The Dee boss joined the Hoops’ city rivals Rangers in 1998 but grew up as a Celtic fan.

McCann said he was bracing himself for more vitirol at tonight’s crunch Betfred Cup quarter-final at Dens – but said he is prepared to take it on the chin.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: “I expect a nice cheery, warm welcome. It’s never changed since I’ve been playing football. I get the same adulation from the Celtic fans.

“There’s nothing they can say to me that I haven’t heard before. I’ve heard some disgusting, despicable things but nothing they say will bother me.”

Dundee go into tonight’s game as underdogs but will be hoping to give Celtic a tough contest following a 3-2 victory over St Johnstone.

McCann added: “Somebody has got to stop them. Every manager who has come up against Brendan domestically has thought it’s going to be him.

“I think it’s going to be us but ultimately the players have to believe.”
