Rangers in signing talks with midfield duo Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar

Rangers are in talks to sign experienced midfield duo Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar.

Barton arrived in Glasgow over the weekend and was given a tour of Ibrox and Murray Park as the club try to convince him to turn down the opportunity to captain Burnley in the English Premier League, in favour of a move to Glasgow.

Meanwhile the Daily Record this morning reports that Gers boss Mark Warburton flew to New York for signing talks with Kranjcar.

The Croatian midfielder, who has previously played in the UK with Portsmouth, Tottenham and QPR, joined New York Cosmos in March but Warburton is hoping to convince the 31-year-old to return to the UK to add more creativity to his midfield options.

Kranjcar only signed a short term deal with the Cosmos for the 10 week ‘spring season’ and could be open to a return to Europe when his deal expires.

At the end of March, when signing in New York, the Croatian international was asked about his long term future and simply said: “We will sit down and speak in the summer. This is good opportunity to get back to fitness, I hope I can help the team win as many games as possible. I hope I can bring some personality to the team.”

Talks with Barton, who was named in the Championship team of the year as Burnley secured the title, are believed to be ongoing.

The England cap has been offered a new one year deal at Burnley but has yet to agree terms and could be tempted by a longer term contract at Ibrox.

Last week the Gers completed a deal to sign tough tackling central midfielder Rossiter, 19, from Liverpool.

Rossiter became the third player to agree to join the Gers this summer after Accrington Stanley duo Josh Windass and Matt Crooks signed pre-contract deals.

While Warburton is happy with the quality of player he has been able to sign so far, he is still looking to add experience to his squad and Barton and Kranjcar would certainly bring that.
