Aberdeen FC Women’s manager Emma Hunter hopes tomorrow’s clash with Kilmarnock can be the start of another journey to promotion.
After winning SWFL Division One North last season the Dons begin their Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 campaign at Cormack Park at 1pm tomorrow.
The aim for the Reds is to return to the top flight of Scottish Women’s football and Hunter said: “When Aberdeen Football Club came in to take over the Aberdeen Ladies team it was always the vision to get back in SWPL 1.
“As a group of players and staff that’s what we want to do because we have a lot of talented players in the north.
“In order to ensure they develop and get better it’s important for them to play against the best players in Scotland.
“I feel this league is going to be exceptionally tough in terms of who we’re playing week to week. It will be close in terms of teams competing for the top spots.
“It’s really good we’re in this league, but equally we need to compete and look to get out of this league so that we’ve got a club from the north in the top division.”
The Dons don’t know a huge amount about Killie, but Hunter hopes they can make a strong start to the season.
He added: “It’s a difficult one to know what Kilmarnock could be like because they have recently appointed a new manager.
“And there has been a lot of player movement down south so they will have a few new faces.
“We know a little bit about them from playing them in the Scottish Cup last season. That was a game we managed to win 3-1 which was really positive for us.
“The first game of the season is always a bit nervy for both clubs because it’s the start of a long journey in the league and both clubs will want to start with a win.”
