ANM Group has appointed two advisers to deliver its new knowledge transfer programme.

The north-east farmers’ co-operative has appointed Robert Gilchrist and Declan Marren as advisers for the three-year programme, which has received a £678,000 grant from the Scottish Government.

Mr Gilchrist joins from Quality Meat Scotland, where he worked as a knowledge transfer specialist, while Mr Marren joins from a farm in County Sligo in the north-west of Ireland.

The initiative – Farm Profit Programme: Making Livestock Pay – sets out to improve the technical performance and profitability of livestock farmers in the region through dissemination of best practice.

Six focus farms will be set up from Caithness to Angus, and the two advisers will support the focus farms in developing and implementing a three-year strategic plan.

In addition eight focus groups, comprising between 10 and 15 farmers, will be set up to provide a platform for knowledge sharing.

ANM Group executive director, John Gregor, said: “We are pleased with the initial interest and excitement generated by the programme from farmers to date. Our advisers’ priority is to proceed with the selection of suitable focus farms from the area and we encourage anyone interested in the focus groups to register their involvement with them.”
