Agronomy and crop protection distribution firm ProCam has extended its Scottish offering with the purchase of Grampian Grain Limited.

The deal, which was agreed for an undisclosed sum, sees the business of Alford-based Grampian Grain transferred to ProCam’s Scottish trading division, Robertson Crop Services.

Grampian Grain is a successful agricultural merchant and grain trading business which has been operating in Aberdeenshire for more than 40 years.

The sale was part of a retirement plan for owners Henry Thomson and John Milne, who will remain at the company on a consultancy basis.

Robertson Crop Services managing director, Richard Allan, said Mr Thomson and Mr Milne would be a welcome addition to the existing staff base of seven agronomists and two animal feed salesmen.

He said Robertson Crop Services, which has bases in Cuminestwon near Turriff and Kildary in Invergordon, would benefit from the acquisition.

“The Grampian Grain business is a natural fit for our Robertsons business. I would like to thank Henry, John and all the team for their hard work over the many years in building a great business,” said Mr Allan.

“Pro Cam through Robertson Crop Services will continue to supply the Grampian Grain customers with all their agrochemical needs and ensure the continued growth of a local business in fertiliser, cereal seed, grass seed, animal feed and an opportunity to trade grain.”

The sale is also likely to result in new jobs – Mr Allan said the company would recruit more staff in future.

The deal was completed on April 3.
