A special prize will be presented to the best exhibitor from Aberdeenshire at this year’s Royal Highland Show.
The Aberdeenshire silver salver was launched eight years ago by the presidential team overseeing the show that year.
In previous years the show used to travel round eight different regions in Scotland, including the north-east.
However the decision was made to host the show permanently at its current showground at Ingliston in 1960, and the last Aberdeen show was held at the city’s Hazelhead Park in 1959.
Since then the presidential team at the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society for Scotland, which organises the show, rotates around the regions like the show once did.
It is the turn of the Aberdeen region again this year, led by Lord Aberdeen of Haddo Estate and a team of four vice-presidents.
The team will be responsible for choosing the best exhibitor or contributor at the show to receive the Aberdeenshire silver salver. They are also leading an initiative to promote the Aberdeenshire region to Highland Show visitors.
Last year’s winner of the Aberdeenshire silver salver was well-known Shetland pony breeder Harry Sleigh who runs the Wells Stud at St Johns Wells, Fyvie.
The Sleigh family, who have been RHASS members since 1858, lifted the salver after their stallion Wells McCoy lifted a string of wins including the Shetland pony championship and reserve overall horse champion title.
