It’s not every day that you have the chance to buy a piece of history but that’s exactly what’s on the market in the form of this charming Cults home.
Built by George Davidson in 1840, a rope, twine and net manufacturer who was one of the founders of Deeside Golf Club, 1 Wellwood was renovated in 2007 to provide six luxury homes including this three bedroom self-contained house.
Before even setting foot in the house, Alison Bruce fell head over heels with its idyllic woodland setting.
“I came to Wellwood when the entire site was newly renovated and up for sale in 2007, with a view to buying a property to rent out,” says Alison.
“However, I was so blown away by the grounds and mansion house that I decided I wanted to live there.
“At the time, I was in a large five-bed house in the West End (which I currently rent out) and my oldest son Leon had just gone to university, so it all made sense.
“I loved the historical background here – where we even have the original horse and carriage road up to the house.
“I also love the woodlands which is a haven for wildlife and some stunning trees.”
Best of both worlds
After enjoying eight blissfully happy years at 1 Wellwood, Alison moved into a neighbouring property while renting out her beautiful home.
Reluctantly putting the property on the market, Alison says that now is the right time to let another family enjoy the home.
“Believe me its not been an easy decision to let it go but my exit strategy has to start somewhere,” says Alison.
“I’m still living here in my second property – I wouldn’t want to leave it suits me perfectly as it’s very private and peaceful.
“It’s like living in the countryside but I have all the facilities I need in Cults and the city centre is ten minutes away.”
Open plan kitchen
Brimming with character, the period property opens up with a Jacobean style porch.
Perfect for entertaining, the beautiful reception hallway mixes elaborate décor with ornate features such as the striking ornate fireplace and porcelain tiling.
During the colder winter months, this room is particularly cosy thanks to underfloor heating.
And whether it’s a Sunday roast dinner with all the family or a cheese and wine night with friends, the exceptionally spacious kitchen is made for entertaining especially as it is on open plan with the family/dining room.
Like something straight out of a TV cooking programme, the contemorary kitchen is equipped with top quality appliances including a dishwasher, washing machine, American style fridge/freezer and a dual fuel range cooker and also has space for dining.
“1 Wellwood is the perfect place for entertaining,” says Alison.
“I’ve had my annual Christmas party, dinner parties, wine tastings, fashion shoots, and lots of mahjong and canasta (games) playing with friends.”
Post dinner relaxation can be enjoyed in the elegant lounge where views over the extensive garden grounds and the woodland can be soaked up.
This room is also a warm retreat as it has an ornate fireplace complete with remote controlled modern gas fire.
Underfloor heating
Also on the ground floor is a cloakroom toilet and plenty of storage cupboards.
Over the years, Alison has maintained the property to an exceptional standard.
“The property had just been completely renovated when I bought it so there was nothing major to do,” says Alison.
“I did create two spacious lofts, put in underfloor heating in the ground floor, wired it up for a surround system throughout the house and supervised the interior design and soft furnishings.”
Upstairs, the mezzanine level is where the guest bedroom can be found.
Complete with its own balcony offering views across the woodland, the guests suite is also served by a three-piece family bathroom.
Stairs lead to the upper hallway where there is another spacious guest bedroom with en suite shower room and access to a fully floored loft.
Completing the accommodation is the spectacular master bedroom with en suite.
Extensive garden
Outside, the property enjoys extensive private landscaped garden grounds and private woodlands.
Other key features include an intruder alarm, video security system, a surround sound system, gas central heating, double glazing along with an abundance of storage facilities including an underground garage and storage area.
Asked who she thinks the property will suit next, Alison says:
“1 Wellwood has many positive facets that would suit so many people.
“The schools and amenities nearby are brilliant so there is something for everyone.”
