Unions representing refuse workers are demanding that Aberdeen City Council withdraw plans to “force them” to work on the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.
At the moment, council bin staff and street cleaners can voluntarily agree to work on the seasonal bank holidays in return for double time and a day off in lieu.
But the council now wants to impose a change in conditions, giving managers the ability to make bank holiday working compulsory for staff.
Unite regional officer Tommy Campbell said: ““If management don’t withdraw these plans, we will have no choice but to put the matter into dispute, and ballot our members for industrial action.”
