Police are hunting a man who held up an Aberdeen shop with a gun this morning.

Staff were left terrified as the armed robber made off with less than £100 and several items from the Icon Grocers shop on George Street at 6.10am this morning.

The man is described as being white, slim build around 5ft 8 – 5ft 10 inches tall and aged in his late teens or early twenties.

He is described as wearing a dark waterproof hooded jacket with the hood pulled around his face.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Sherlock said: “Fortunately no one was injured in this incident however it would have been extremely frightening for the staff involved.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time given who may have seen anything to get in touch with us. I’m also appealing to any drivers with vehicles fitted with dashboard cameras who were in the area of George Street around the time in question to check any recordings and report anything suspicious.

“Officers will be in the area carrying out enquiries and I would ask that if you spotted anything unusual or suspicious or have any information you speak to the officers or contact police on 101. To remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”
