A 38-year-old man has been taken to hospital following an assault on a busy city centre street in Aberdeen.
Police were called to George Street shortly after 8.30am today after they received reports of disturbance involving “a number of people”.
The street is home to a number of businesses – including shops, bakeries, hospitality venues and hairdressers.
A section of the road, between John Street and Maberly Street, was closed to traffic and pedestrians for six hours to allow further investigation and reopened shortly after 3pm.
Officers said a man suffered non-life threating injuries and was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.
A police spokesman said: “We were made aware of a man having been assaulted on George Street in Aberdeen shortly after 8.30am on Monday.
“A 38-year-old man has been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment. His injuries are described as non-life threatening.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
Images showed two police vehicles on the street, while half a dozen officers examined the scene and took notes from nearby businesses to piece together what happened.
Access to shops and restaurants located on that section of George Street – such as Scotland’s Bothy, The Blue Elephant and The Fun House – was restricted during the closure.
Police advised the public to avoid the area while the road was closed.
