The start of the 2020-21 season has been different to any other with games being played without fans and with a whole range of other restrictions.

For Peterhead’s Alan Cook another big change has been a switch in position.

The 28-year-old who has played as a winger throughout his career has been deployed through the middle by Blue Toon boss Jim McInally.

Cook may well find himself in that role again tomorrow when the Buchan outfit Clyde at Broadwood.

Although it has taken a bit of getting used to Cook is determined to ensure he does his bit for the cause in his new role.

He said: “The gaffer has decided to play me through the middle rather than out wide for the majority of the games.

“That’s been something new to me, but I’m happy to run with it, it’s something different and you just have to get on with it.

“The manager has seen something I can offer through the middle and it’s maybe something I hadn’t seen myself.

“He’s the manager and I respect his decision and I want to play as many games as I can so whether it’s through the middle or out wide you try to contribute as much you can.

“Playing through middle I just hope I’m able to bring enough to the team.

“It is an unfamiliar role and takes some time to adapt to and get used to because I’ve played over 300 games in my career and the vast majority have been out wide.

“The more you play it the more you get used to it. I give my best wherever my play and that’s up for the manager to decide if I’m doing enough in a position.”

Peterhead manager Jim McInally

Having beaten Dundee United and Brechin City in the League Cup group stage Peterhead have lost their first two League One fixtures against Airdrieonians and Cove Rangers (both 2-0).

With the squad McInally has assembled Cook believes it is only a matter of time before the Blue Toon earn their first league points of the campaign.

He hopes it will happen against Clyde tomorrow and added: “There’s some very good players here as there were last season.

“But it’s about getting results, it’s not about how good players are on paper, it’s about producing as a team on the pitch.

“We haven’t got any points in the first two games, but with the players we’ve got I’m sure we’ll get off the mark very soon.

“We’ve got the players, the gaffer has built a very good squad, so it’s just a case of turning in good performances and getting results.

“There’s experience as well as some very good young players and it’s a good squad so it’s up to us to deliver.

“I’m sure it will come soon. We had a very good League Cup winning the two games.

“It’s maybe slightly different to the league because we were underdogs at Tannadice and played really well to win and then against Brechin we were favourites and we had a very good first half to win the game.

“There’s not been too much in the games against Airdrie and Cove, but we’re lost 2-0 and ultimately results speak for themselves.

“There are not concerns at the minute because we have a good squad that can get results.”
