Aberdeen-Angus bulls lead the charge to 15,000gn at Stirling Bull Sales

Aberdeen-Angus bulls sold to a five-figure sum nine times yesterday at the Stirling Bull Sales.

Leading the charge at 15,000gn was an entry from Ian Campbell’s Thrunton herd at Thrunton Farm, Whittingham, Alnwick.

April-2016 born Thrunton Panther, by Hallington Edition and out of Thrunton Paradise, sold to the Fraser family’s Idvies herd at Newton of Idvies, Forfar.

The Frasers lifted the championship with Idvies Ferrari but refused to sell him at 12,000gn.

Next best at 14,000gn was September-2016 born Ellin Ergo from Wanda Hobbs, Wedderlie Gordon.

By Wedderlie Target and out of Ellin Eragle, he sold to W.S. Robson and Co, Yatesfield, Otterburn.

Thereafter 12,000gn was paid for Stouphill Lord Ramon from the Allen family at Humbleheugh Alnwick. By Duncanziemere Jigsaw and out of Rawburn Lady Rose, he sold to Alasdair Houston’s Gretnahouse herd at Gretna Green.

Next best at 10,500gn was Deveron Eldon from Hamish Sclater, Denhead Farms, Dunlugas, Turriff. This April-2016 born son of Belhaven Dryburgh Abbey sold to R. and E. Vance, Broughton Skeog, Whithorn, Newton Stewart.

Five lots sold for 10,000gn, the first being March-2016 born Linton Gilbertines Profile from the Trustees of the Late Gordon R. Brooke at Upper Huntlywood Farm, Earlston. By Rawburn Elysium, he sold to Page Farms, Newton Grange Farm, Bedale, North Yorkshire.

Another at this price was the senior champion from AJR Farms, Milton of Collieston, Ellon. Brought out by stockmen Andrew and James Reid, Logie Explosive is by Rawburn Enoch. He sold to J. and E. Campbell, Rosebrough Farm, Alnwick.

The third lot at 10,000gn was Tonley Eagle, by Tonley Essien, from Neil Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Alford. He sold to Macfarlane Farms, Quixwood, Duns.

The Watties achieved the top female price of 7,000gn selling Tonley Princess to K. McOscar, Island Farm, Co Tyrone.

The fourth bull at 10,000gn was Belhaven El Burladero from the Gilmours at Penston, Macmerry. By Gretnahouse Blacksmith, he sold to the Bell family at Kirkton, Hawick.

The last at this price was another Tonley bull – Tonley Emmerson, by Tonley Anelka, selling to J.W. Weir, Cortleferry, Galashiels.

In total 101 bulls sold to average £5,746 at a clearance rate of 72%. This is up £11 on last year.
