VIDEO: Air ambulance called out to serious crash on A90

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after her car hit a tree on a north-east road.

The incident happened at 4.30pm on the A90 Peterhead to Fraserburgh road near the Ban-Car Hotel in Lonmay.

The 38-year-old, who has not been named but is believed to be from the Fraserburgh area, is thought to have been travelling towards the port at the time of the crash.

She was the sole occupant and her vehicle – a dark-coloured Audi – was the only one involved.

Police, fire and ambulance crews raced to the scene to offer assistance.

Officers remained on hand to divert traffic while the road was cleared of debris.

The driver had to be cut out of the vehicle before being transported by helicopter to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The car had come to a stop about 1,000ft from a speed camera.

Its engine was no longer within its chassis.

One witness, who was travelling on a bus nearby at the time of the crash, described seeing the car “spinning out”.

And a nearby resident added that the road was a known “hot spot” for accidents.

He added: “I’m not surprised to hear another crash has taken place.

“I wouldn’t like to say what has happened here, but that corner is severe.

“There needs to be another camera added.”

A police spokeswoman said the woman involved had suffered “serious injuries”.

From the roadside, Sergeant Rory Campbell added: “There has been a crash involving a 38-year-old female and a single car.

“Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

“But the road will be closed for a couple of hours.”

Paramedics at the crash confirmed the driver’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
