College student makes directorial debut

A north-east student has made her directorial debut with a film about a debilitating disease.

Katie Low, 18, premiered Remember Me at The Belmont Filmhouse yesterday afternoon to raise money for charity Alzheimer Scotland.

The 15-minute film explores Alzheimer’s disease and the impact it has on people and their loved ones.

Miss Low, of Ellon, said: “I wanted to raise awareness about it. It’s a terrible illness where you start losing yourself.

“This tells the story of a man who goes through it and slowly you can see how it affects him and his family.”

Remember Me took the North East Scotland College student three months to write and film, and features a cast of Aberdonians with Alec Westwood in the lead role.

The actor starred alongside James Cosmo and Ricky Tomlinson in the 1990s BBC oil rig drama Roughnecks.

He said: “When I read the script, I knew I had to do it.

“I couldn’t believe it had been written by an 18-year-old.

“Everyone working on the film did it free of charge.

“I think it’s a great thing to get the word out there about Alzheimer’s and raise money for the charity.”
