Hard rock band Airbourne has just cancelled its Inverness gig.

The Australian band was meant to rock Ironworks later this month, but the venue confirmed on Twitter that the much-anticipated gig would not go ahead.

In addition to Inverness, Airbourne was also expected to bring their tour to Glasgow, Manchester and London later this year, with Manchester and London dates already rescheduled for July 23 and 27 respectively.

According to Ticketmaster, the Glasgow show has now been postponed and a new date will be confirmed at a later date. However, the Ironworks gig is marked as ‘cancelled’, which left many north and north-east fans frustrated.

The band took to social media on Monday November 7 to explain the situation. They said: “It is with extreme disappointment that we are having to make some amends on our upcoming European tour.

“The Aussie dollar along with spiralling touring costs mean we are forced to shorten the period.”

Airbourne cancels Inverness gig but reschedules London and Manchester shows

While some of the other UK gigs will now take place in July, the Ironworks show won’t be able to go ahead in summer because the venue will close for good at the end of 2022.

The band said on Instagram: “Due to some of the venues’ availabilities we have had to make some changes to one or two of the rooms on the dates but all tickets remain valid for the same city shows.

“The only show we have been unable to find a solution for is Inverness as the venue will be closing down. Our sincere apologies to these rockers in the far north.

“Refunds for this show will be available from point of purchase.”

Back in August Highland Council’s south planning committee approved plans to knock down Ironworks and build a 155-bed hotel in its place.

Ironworks director Caroline Campbell confirmed the venue would stay open until the end of 2022. You can read more about the plans here.

She told the P&J in August: “From the very start, our vision was to establish a unique and distinctive destination that music fans from the Highlands and Islands could call their own.

“A place they could come together, form new friendships and see some of their favourite acts.

“We’ve had a fantastic 14 years at 122B Academy Street as the area’s largest independent music venue.”
