The fourth annual Look Again festival was kicked off yesterday with a collaboration between a renowned London artist and a dozen city schoolchildren.
Rob Lowe, who is better known in design circles as Supermundane, unveiled his latest piece outside Catherine Street Community Centre.
The SuperAberdeen mural combines Mr Lowe’s signature geometric patterns with illustrations and photographs taken by local youngsters during workshops with creative collective Stack.
Look Again aims to take over familiar spaces with contemporary art and design, encouraging residents and visitors to see the city through fresh eyes.
Mr Lowe said: “Hopefully artwork like this will help people to look at the area in a new way.
“It’s got a lot of people excited about where they live.”
More than 120 artists and designers have been involved in this year’s festival, which has been organised by Robert Gordon University and art curator Smart.
Coinciding with Scotland’s Year of Young People, the event has been given the theme of “serious play.”
It runs until Sunday and includes a fairytale-esque house nestled within Marischal College and a “multi-sensory” oil rig playpark on Broad Street.
Hilary Nicoll, the festival’s associate director, said: “Everything is about play, is playable or is playful.
“We’re in our fourth year and going from strength to strength and there’s a lot to see and do.
“We want people to look at the city through fresh eyes and take a bit more pride in it.
“There is a lot of work which will make people stop and think.”
