Aberdeen passengers lose two days of holiday after ‘all over the place’ 32-hour Tui delay

Hannah Innes faced a 32-hour Tui delay from Aberdeen.
Hannah Innes faced a 32-hour Tui delay from Aberdeen.

Holidaymakers from Aberdeen have lost out on two days of their trip after their flight was delayed overnight.

Hannah Innes, 20, was booked on a flight leaving the city for Turkey at 7.10am on Monday.

Along with her friends Eilidh and Emily, she arrived at Aberdeen Airport at 5am on Monday, two hours ahead of their scheduled flight.

At around 9.30am, the group received an email and text from Tui saying the flight had been delayed due to an “operational fault” until 4pm – the next day.

All of the passengers booked to be on the Aberdeen to Dalaman flight were put up in hotels to wait out the 32 hour delay.

Miss Innes, from Aberdeen, said: “We were told to get our luggage but there was a delay with that as well. They supplied a hotel room, but we couldn’t check in until after 12pm, so we all had to stay at the airport.

“We were each given a £10 refreshments voucher. There were queues for everything – it was all over the place”

Hannah Innes’s flight to Turkey was delayed by more than 24 hours.

Ongoing flight issues

The flight delay means Miss Innes and her friends have lost out on two days of their week-long holiday.

Luckily they have been able to rearrange their plans for arriving in Turkey and have not suffered any major financial losses.

She added: “We later heard the same flight was delayed on Thursday by nine and half hours, and the passengers sat on the plane for over an hour before taking off.

“We booked the holiday at the start of the year because we got a good deal. Then we started hearing about some other problems.”

Last week, hundreds of flights were cancelled by airlines forcing travellers to wait in long queues at airports. The “flight chaos” further escalated over the Jubilee weekend with more than 10,000 flights scheduled to leave the UK within four days.

A spokeswoman from Tui said: “We’re incredibly sorry to those customers who have been impacted by the recent disruption to our operations.

“We understand that last minute delays and cancellations are incredibly disappointing, and we would like to reassure our customers that we are doing everything we can to get them on holiday.

“We can confirm flight TOM814 from Aberdeen to Dalaman, Turkey, was unfortunately delayed on Monday 6 June due to operational issues. Customers were notified via email and text messages, provided overnight accommodation and offered meals and refreshments.

“We notified them of their revised departure time as soon as possible, and the flight arrived on Tuesday, June 7.

“We’d like to reassure customers that the majority of our flights are operating as planned, and we apologise again for the inconvenience caused.”
