A group which supports people affected by stroke has been recognised for helping vulnerable people across Aberdeenshire throughout the pandemic.
The Deeside Stroke Group normally meets twice a week for exercise but when the lockdown hit, the usual meetings were put on hold.
However, the group’s physiotherapist Anna Bichard decided to move the sessions online due to a desire from members for them to continue.
The group has now received a community spirit award for helping vulnerable people in towns and villages across Aberdeenshire.
Club chairman Eric Sinclair said it had proved to be a “huge success”, adding: “We have received positive feedback from everyone, and members seem happy with the new set up, made possible by the enthusiasm and hard work from the group volunteers and Anna.
“Anna works through routines and exercises that are familiar to the group but has also added in new ones, such as arm exercises. She uses her voice and demonstrates the action for everyone to see.”
The volunteering and community officer for the Stroke Association in Scotland, Jennifer Kennedy said the work the Deeside Stroke group has been doing is now being used as a blueprint to help other clubs and groups.
