A seafood bistro in Lossiemouth that has been revitalised under new ownership is reopening to the public tomorrow.

Formerly known as The Seafood Restaurant & Grill, Kara Scott and Willi Zellweger have transformed the restaurant on the coastal town’s Clifton Road, and renamed it to Catch 79.

The “small and intimate” renovation process at the new-look eatery took around five weeks to complete and will welcome back diners from 5pm on Friday November 18.

Kara, 31, and Willi, 36, took over the premises from its previous owner – who was keen for the duo to take it on and make it their own – on Thursday October 20.

Both from Lossiemouth, the co-owners worked at the former business as a manager and head chef, so carry plenty of experience in the sector and local area.

The perfect Lossiemouth catch

Catch 79 will have a capacity of 36 and the team will initially comprise of two to four members, according to Kara.

Its opening hours will be 5pm to 10pm Thursday to Saturday and noon to 10pm on Sundays.

Kara, who started out in the hospitality trade at the age of 14, says the menu will feature “wonderful, fresh and locally-sourced seafood, meat and other produce, all cooked from scratch with lots of love and passion.”

The manager explained she has always loved meeting new people and thrives on providing excellent customer service.

A series of small bites, starters, main courses, sides, and desserts are available to choose from.

Among them are cinnamon spiced pumpkin bruschetta, grilled halloumi cheese, haggis stuffed turkey roulade, pumpkin ravioli, warm apple strudel, and clootie dumpling.

The seafood options include a seafood platter, salmon steak, seared scallops, and whole lobster.

The kitchen team is headed by Swiss chef Willi, who started cheffing more than two decades ago.

He said: “Having grown up on a small farm, I have the drive to use as much local produce as possible. And being in Morayshire, there is hardly a better place for that ethos.”

Kara added: “We believe our seafood platter, whole lobster, and surf and turfs will win over our customers.

“We hope our lovely homemade desserts will go down a treat, too.”

Prices of dishes and sides vary from £2 to £32.

Welcoming old and new faces

The owners of the Lossiemouth seafood bistro are looking forward to welcoming customers, new and old, to the revamped venue which will shine a light on local produce.

“We are blessed to live in such a wonderful location right on the coast where we can have access to some of the best seafood around,” Willi said.

“People can enjoy our dishes knowing the food is fished, farmed, and produced nearby.”

Kara added: “Our suppliers are all wonderful, small, local businesses – including the famous Windswept Brewery.

“We love that we can work together to support our local economy and provide somewhere warm and inviting for families, friends, and colleagues to relax or celebrate and enjoy some amazing food.

“We like what we do and like to do that right.”
