Wick boss Gary Manson recruits Orkney duo but Keith clash off

Wick Academy player-manager Gary Manson has bolstered his squad with two signings from Orkney.

Striker Jamie Flett, 24, and 23-year-old midfielder Toby Macleod – who have both featured as trialists for the Scorries this term – have now signed for the Caithness club.

The pair would have been in the Wick squad for today’s Breedon Highland League clash with Keith at Kynoch Park, however, it was postponed yesterday due to a waterlogged pitch.

On the island duo, Manson said: “Jamie and Toby are really keen to come and play for us which is what you want.

“Too often we’ve found with players local to us with the ability to play in the Highland League they don’t want to commit to it or show the wrong attitude.

“So it’s refreshing that these two boys from Orkney, who will have to travel more and commit more than any of our players, are willing to do it.

“We haven’t scored enough goals this season, both of them should help with that and add depth to our squad and provide increased competition for places.”

Elsewhere, Rothes v Nairn County at Mackessack Park was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
